Shopping for Balloon Décor? Here’s What You Shouldn’t Expect from Your Balloon Decorator
Share
When it comes to planning your event, balloon decorations can really elevate the atmosphere, but it’s important to set realistic expectations with your balloon decorator. There are certain things that are just not feasible or reasonable to expect, and having a clear understanding of these can make the process smoother for both you and your decorator. Here are 10 things you should not expect from your balloon decorator.
1. For Them to Hold Your Date Without Payment
Many clients assume that their decorator will "hold" the date for them without paying the invoice. However, this is not the case. A balloon decorator’s time and resources are limited, so until the payment is received, the date may not be secured. Always ensure you pay your invoice promptly to lock in your booking.
2. For Your Decorator to Wait for You
It’s important to respect the time that your decorator has set aside for your event. Make sure you arrive on time and that your event runs according to the agreed-upon schedule. Don’t expect your decorator to wait if you’re late, whether it’s for access to the venue or the event’s end time. Time is valuable, and delays can affect the quality of the work they provide.
3. To Expect Extra Work Without Discussion
While balloon decorators are experts at creating amazing balloon displays, they’re not here to do everything. Don’t expect them to help set up your backdrop, arrange tables and chairs, or add other personal embellishments unless this was clearly discussed and agreed upon ahead of time. Similarly, it’s unreasonable to expect them to make adjustments to the design (like adding florals or other personal accents) without prior agreement.
4. To Lower Their Prices Because of Competitors
Every balloon decorator has their own pricing structure based on experience, materials, and the complexity of the design. While you might come across cheaper options from other decorators, it’s unrealistic to expect your decorator to lower their price just because someone else is offering a lower rate. Quality comes at a price, and this is especially true for the artistry involved in balloon décor.
5. To Come Back and Fix Popped Balloons Due to No Fault of Their Own
Balloons are delicate by nature. While decorators take every precaution to ensure your balloons last, they can pop or oxidize, particularly in extreme heat or unfavorable conditions. It’s important to understand that it’s not reasonable to expect a decorator to come back hours later to fix or replace popped balloons, especially if the damage was caused by external factors, not poor workmanship.
6. To Read Your Mind
If you don’t like something, speak up! Balloon decorators want you to be happy with your décor, but we can't make changes or adjustments if we don’t know what you want. Open communication is key to ensuring your vision becomes a reality. So, if something doesn’t look right, let us know - we’re happy to make adjustments as long as you communicate your thoughts.
7. To Change Time, Location, or Date Last Minute
Sometimes, life throws unexpected changes your way, but please understand that decorators plan their schedules based on the details you provide. Changing the time, location, or date last minute isn’t always feasible. If adjustments need to be made, give as much notice as possible, but always expect that changes may come with additional charges or may not be possible at all.
8. To Create Double-Stuffed Balloons at No Charge
Double-stuffing balloons require extra time, materials, and labor to create. While double-stuffed balloons are stunning and provide a unique effect, don’t expect your decorator to do this for free. Always discuss the specifics of what you want with your decorator ahead of time, so you know if there will be additional charges.
9. To Do Anything Outside of Balloons (or What Was Discussed)
While balloon decorators specialize in balloon design, we can’t be expected to take on other tasks outside of our agreed services. For example, we can’t help with setting up your tables, linens, or florals unless it was specifically discussed and included in your package. Keep the focus on balloon work, and make sure you clearly outline your expectations when it comes to additional responsibilities.
10. To Throw Away Your Balloons After the Event
Once the event is over, you might think that your balloon decorator will come back to collect and dispose of the balloons, but that's not always the case unless it was previously discussed. If you’ve arranged to have the balloons taken down or disposed of after the event, make sure this is part of your agreement. Otherwise, you’re responsible for their removal.
Setting Realistic Expectations for a Smooth Event
The key to a successful event with balloon décor is communication and mutual understanding. By setting clear expectations with your balloon decorator from the start, you’ll ensure that everything goes smoothly on the big day. Remember, balloon decorations are a work of art, and like any artwork, they require time, care, and respect for the process.
By keeping these 10 things in mind, you’ll have a much better experience working with your decorator and will help them bring your vision to life exactly as you imagined.
